Our History

In 1985 Richard joined Fidelity investments in Boston. In 1987 due to the stock market crash Fidelity gave him an opportunity of a lifetime, to begin working for himself. Richard started working for several different insurance firms in the Cleveland area and eventually joined his father-in-law Bill Koptis this in 1990. In 1999 Richard formed ownership advisors to allow him the ability to focus on planning (family wealth consulting).

In 1999 across the country Mark Van Drunen joined LPL financial in their accounting and finance department. LPL was and is the largest independent broker dealer in the United States (as reported by Financial Planning magazine, June 1996-2019, based on total revenue.). Within two years he transferred to the estate and financial planning group. This group had the responsibility of overseeing and advising on all the financial planning cases for the then 7500 financial advisors. LPL put Mark through his master’s in finance at senior state which allowed him the opportunities to eventually run the estate financial planning group. The group grew from one to six planners and from $40,000 to $4 million financial planning fees.

In 2007 Mark joined Richard at Ownership Advisors. Now, Richard is Founder and CEO and Mark is President.
